Course description
This is a blended-learning course with the online programme DUO (Deutsch-Uni Online, www.deutsch-uni.com). The focus is on university German language learning in all four areas: listening, reading, writing and speaking, grammar, vocabulary, learning and working techniques, social knowledge, insight into study organisation, study practice and TestDaF preparation. DUO offers up to 240 working hours, minimum starting level is B1. This is an experimental course with the teacher basically assuming the role of a tutor, who monitors the progress of each student and gives individual assignments accordingly. Extensive questionnaires and online German tests at the beginning and at the end of the semester are designed to show the advantages and disadvantages of this form of blended-learning compared to traditional face to face teaching, which will be done in the second semester of this class.

Grading will be based on each student’s individual progress during the course, measured by the results of the online tests and assignments.

Course requirements: German 3 or equivalent, regular attendance, willing to work on assignments.

Teaching Materials & Textbooks:
Each student gets an own DUO account he or she can log into not only during class but as often as desired.
